CAUSATIVE VERBS

INTRODUCTION

Causative verbs are very helpful to add a finish to your sentences. Causative is equal to CAUSE which means origin, root, or source. Moreover, we will say, when someone or something causes someone or something to do work or any other action, in that case, we use the causative verb.

Furthermore, causative verbs can be used as:-

1. Active Voice

2. Passive Voice

3. Participles

Forms of causative verbs

ACTIVE VOICE (CAUSATIVE VERBS)

In causative verbs when we get work done from others we would say cause to that person who made others perform an action or complete the work and the doer who did the work. These sentences can be formed into three forms:- Present, Past, and Future.

the structure would be:-

PRESENTsubject+makes/make+object+infinitive(without to)

PASTsubject+made+object+infinitive (without to)

FUTUREsub+will+make+object+infinitive (without to)

However, the s/es has to be used with singular subjects (she, he, it, one name) with the make and we called it POSITIVE SENTENCES that’s why I have placed P) before sentences to make you understand. In other words, MAKES – (SINGULAR) AND MAKE – (PLURAL).

let’s have some examples:-

1. P) I MAKE RAM LAUGH.

2. P) HE MAKES THE HORSE RUN.

3. P) SHE MAKES BABY SLEEP.

4. P) THEY MAKE RAMU WRITE.

5. P) WE MAKE RAVEENA SAD.

6. P) SHE MAKES EVERYONE READ.

17. P) WE WILL MAKE OTHERS FOOL.

Furthermore, causative verb sentences can also be framed into NEGATIVE, INTERROGATIVE, and INTERROGATIVE NEGATIVE. Additionally, Here we start using DO WITH PLURAL in present and DOES WITH SINGULAR in present and DID WITH BOTH (SINGULAR+PLURAL) in past. For negative sentences we will use N), I) for interrogative, and IN) for interrogative negative. Let’s understand with some examples given below:-

(PRESENT)

1. N) I DO NOT/DON’T MAKE RAM LAUGH.

1. I) DO I MAKE RAM LAUGH?

1. IN) DON’T I MAKE RAM LAUGH?

2. N) HE DOESN’T MAKE THE HORSE RUN.

2. I) DOES HE MAKE THE HORSE RUN?

2. IN) DOESN’T HE MAKE THE HORSE RUN?

3. N) SHE DOESN’T MAKE BABY SLEEP.

3. I) DOES SHE MAKE BABY SLEEP?

3. IN) DOESN’T SHE MAKE BABY SLEEP?

4. N) THEY DON’T MAKE RAMU WRITE.

4. I) DO THEY MAKE RAMU WRITE?

4. IN) DON’T THEY MAKE RAMU WRITE?

5. N) WE DON’T MAKE RAVEENA SAD.

5. I) DO WE MAKE RAVEENA SAD?

5. IN) DON’T WE MAKE RAVEENA SAD?

6. N) SHE DOESN’T MAKE EVERYONE READ.

6. I) DOES SHE MAKE EVERYONE READ?

6. IN) DOESN’T SHE MAKE EVERYONE READ?

7. N) THEY DON’T MAKE SEEMA WASH CLOTHES.

7. I) DO THEY MAKE SEEMA WASH CLOTHES?

7. IN) DON’T THEY MAKE SEEMA WASH CLOTHES?

8. N) IT DOESN’T MAKE THE WIPER FALL ON THE FLOOR.

8. I) DOES IT MAKE THE WIPER FALL ON THE FLOOR?

8. IN) DOESN’T IT MAKE THE WIPER FALL ON THE FLOOR?

9. N) ANJALI DOESN’T MAKE SHUBHAM SPEND.

9. I) DOES ANJALI MAKE SHUBHAM SPEND?

9. IN) DOESN’T ANJALI MAKE SHUBHAM SPEND?

10. N) RAVEENA DOESN’T MAKE SEEMA COOK.

10. I) DOES RAVEENA MAKE SEEMA COOK?

10. IN) DOESN’T RAVEENA MAKE SEEMA COOK?

always remember that you have to remove s/es after using does in singular sentences because we never use s/es in make from negative, it only remains in positive singular sentences.

(PAST)

we use DID instead of DO/DOES, and MADE will turn into MAKE after DID because DID is already v2 so we won’t use v2 again in one sentence. such as:-

1. N) ) I DIDN’T MAKE RAM LAUGH.

1. I) DID I MAKE RAM LAUGH?

1. IN) DIDN’T I MAKE RAM LAUGH?

2. N) SHE DIDN’T MAKE THE BABY SLEEP.

2. N) DID SHE MAKE BABY SLEEP?

2. IN) DIDN’T SHE MAKE BABY SLEEP?

3. N) HE DIDN’T MAKE THE HORSE RUN.

3. I) DID HE MAKE THE HORSE RUN?

3. IN) DIDN’T HE MAKE THE HORSE RUN?

4. N) THEY DIDN’T MAKE RAMU WRITE.

4. I) DID THEY MAKE RAMU WRITE?

4. IN) DIDN’T THEY MAKE RAMU WRITE?

5. N) WE DIDN’T MAKE RAVEENA SAD.

5. I) DID WE MAKE RAVEENA SAD?

5. IN) DIDN’T WE MAKE RAVEENA SAD?

6. N) SHE DIDN’T MAKE EVERYONE READ.

6. I) DID SHE MAKE EVERYONE READ?

6. IN) DIDN’T SHE MAKE EVERYONE READ?

7. N) THEY DIDN’T MAKE SEEMA WASH CLOTHES.

7. I) DID THEY MAKE SEEMA WASH CLOTHES?

7. IN) DIDN’T THEY MAKE SEEMA WASH CLOTHES?

8. I) DID IT MAKE THE WIPER FALL ON THE FLOOR?

8. IN) DIDN’T IT MAKE THE WIPER FALL ON THE FLOOR?

10. N) RAVEENA DIDN’T MAKE SEEMA COOK.

10. I) DID RAVEENA MAKE SEEMA COOK?

10. IN) DIDN’T RAVEENA MAKE SEEMA COOK?

(FUTURE)

In the future we have WILL NOT MAKE with both the subjects like:-

1. IN) WON’T THEY MAKE SEEMA WASH CLOTHES?

PASSIVE VOICE (CAUSATIVE VERBS)

Causative verbs also form sentences in PASSIVE VOICE based on the needs of the situations or conditions.

here the structure would be:-

PRESENT – subject+is/am/are+made+infinitive.

PAST – subject+was/were+made+infinitive.

FUTURE – subject+will+be+made+infinitive.

However, In the positive sentences IS has to be used with singular subjects (she, he, it, one name) whereas with Plural ARE exists and AM with I. in other words,

IS – (SINGULAR)

ARE – (PLURAL)

AM – (I)

Moreover, when we frame positive sentences into negative, interrogative, and interrogative negative sentences we simply use is/are/am with not.

let’s understand with some examples:-

(PRESENT)

1. P) RAJNEE IS MADE TO WEEP.

1. N) RAJNEE IS NOT/ISN’T MADE TO WEEP.

4. N) I AM NOT/AMN’T MADE TO INTROSPECT MYSELF.

4. IN) AMN’T I MADE TO INTROSPECT MYSELF?

(PAST)

Structure (present) – subject+have/has/get/s/es+object+past participle.

Form of (past) – subject+had/got+object+past participle.

Formation of (future) – subject+will have/will get+object+past participle.

There will be three structures below in modals participle sentences:-

first – (modals) – subject+can (present) /could (past)+have+object+past participle.
