PRESENT PERFECT CONTINUOUS TENSE

INTRODUCTION

THE PRESENT PERFECT CONTINUOUS TENSE is also one of the most important tenses which are very useful in Meetings, Newspapers, English Magazines, Novels, etc. Moreover, it is very useful in your communication too. In addition to this, it has a long structure as compare to other tenses.

PRESENT PERFECT CONTINUOUS TENSE (POSITIVE)

The PRESENT PERFECT CONTINUOUS TENSE is all regarding THE ACTION WHICH HAS STARTED IN PAST AND STILL GOING ON IN PRESENT. Moreover, we have to use HAS/HAVE+BEEN+V1+ING+OBJ+SINCE/FOR In other words, HAS with SINGULAR and HAVE with PLURAL subjects but we ALSO MENTION TIME HERE SUCH AS SINCE AND FOR.

LET’S LOOK AT THE PICTURE:-

SINCE AND FOR

You can use SINCE in another way SUCH AS – SINCE LAST 5 YEARS, SINCE LAST WEEKS, SINCE LAST 2 HOURS, SINCE LAST TWO MONTHS so we can say whenever we use LAST before not confirmed timings then it will get confirmed.

Always remember the right use of words (since & for) while using timings in your sentences.

Let’s take a look at some EXAMPLES:-

SINGULAR – 1. P) He has been working in this institute since 2015.

2. P) Meena has been living in Delhi for 10 years.

3. P) She has been preparing dinner since last 1 hour.

4. P) Raveena has been doing this work for several years.

5. P) Abhishek has been studying in Kolkata medical college for 3 years.

PLURAL – 1. P) We have been dancing for 2 hours.

2. P) They have been going to Australia since 2011.

3. P) Sheena and Raveena have been playing badminton since last 3 hours.

4. P) You have been dancing since 8 o’clock.

5. P) We have been talking for 2 hours.

PRESENT PERFECT CONTINUOUS TENSE (NEGATIVE)

Now we will turn these examples into NEGATIVE:-

SINGULAR – 1. N) He has not been working in this institute since 2015.

2. N) Meena has not been living in Delhi for 10 years.

3. N) She has not been preparing dinner since last 1 hour.

4. N) Raveena has not been doing this work for several years.

5. N) Abhishek has not been studying in Kolkata medical college for 3 years.

PLURAL – 1. N) We have not been dancing for 2 hours.

2. N) They have not been going to Australia since 2011.

3. N) Sheena and Raveena have not been playing badminton since last 3 hours.

PAST PERFECT CONTINUOUS TENSE (POSITIVE, NEGATIVE, INTERROGATIVE, INTERROGATIVE NEGATIVE)

The PAST PERFECT CONTINUOUS is all regarding THE WORK OR ACTION WHICH HAS STARTED IN PAST AND ALSO END IN PAST AFTER SOME PERIOD OF TIME. Moreover, we have to use HAD+BEEN+V1+ING+OBJ+SINCE/FOR In other words, HAD use with SINGULAR AND PLURAL BOTH the subjects, and we SAME MENTION TIME HERE SUCH AS SINCE AND FOR as same mentioned in the present.

PRESENT PERFECT CONTINUOUS

Let’s take these examples into PAST POSITIVE, NEGATIVE, INTERROGATIVE, and INTERROGATIVE NEGATIVE:-

SINGULAR – 1. P) He had been working in this institute since 2015.

  1. N) He had not been working in this institute since 2015.
  1. I) Had he been working in this institute since 2015?

1. IN) Had not he been working in this institute since 2015?

PLURAL – 1. P) We had been dancing for 2 hours.

1. N) We had not been dancing for 2 hours.

1. I) Had we been dancing for 2 hours?

IN) Had not we been dancing for 2 hours?

FUTURE PERFECT CONTINUOUS TENSE (POSITIVE, NEGATIVE, INTERROGATIVE, INTERROGATIVE NEGATIVE)

The FUTURE PERFECT CONTINUOUS is all regarding THE WORK OR ACTION WHICH WILL START IN FUTURE AND CONTINUES IN FUTURE. Moreover, we have to use WILL HAVE+BEEN+V1+ING+OBJ+SINCE/FOR In other words, HAS with SINGULAR and HAVE with PLURAL subjects and we SAME MENTION TIME HERE SUCH AS SINCE AND FOR as in the present and past.

Let’s take these examples into FUTURE POSITIVE, NEGATIVE, INTERROGATIVE, and INTERROGATIVE NEGATIVE:-

SINGULAR – 1. P) He will have been working in this institute since 2015.

  1. N) He will not have been working in this institute since 2015.
  1. I) Will he have been working in this institute since 2015?

PLURAL – 1. P) We will have been dancing for 2 hours.
