USE OF MUST (modals part-5)

USE OF MUST/ABOUT TO

INTRODUCTION

Before going further I would say just read PREVIOUS PARTS. However, This blog is about the USE OF MUST/ABOUT TO that are part of modals. Furthermore, A MODAL is a type of helping verb that is used to express: ability, possibility, permission, or mood. Moreover, There are a variety of models:-

can, could, may, might, should, would, must, about to/suppose to/going to, use to, used to, ought to, need to, dare to, has to/have to, had to, might have, must have, should have, would have and could have.

Additionally, today we will learn USE OF MUST/ABOUT TO only in this part 5.

USE OF MUST/ABOUT TO

MUST

MUST always use with BOTH – SINGULAR +PLURAL and talks about the EXPRESSING NECESSITY. Moreover, It only uses in PRESENT.

FOR EXAMPLE:-

  1. YOU MUST KNOW ABOUT THE GANDHIAN PHILOSOPHY OF NON-VIOLENCE. (NECESSITY)

2. HE MUST TAKE HIS WRISTWATCH IN EXAM (NECESSITY)

3. HE MUST KNOW THE UPDATES OF CURRENT AFFAIRS (NECESSITY)

4. HE MUST FORGET HIS OFFICE FILE AT HOME (NECESSITY)

5. YOU MUST COME TO SCHOOL ON TIME. (NECESSITY)

6. HE MUST HAVE CLEANED HIS ROOM EVERY DAY. (NECESSITY)

7. YOU MUST HELP OTHERS. (NECESSITY)

8. YOU MUST BE FEELING HUNGRY. (NECESSITY)

9. YOU MUST FOLLOW DISCIPLINE IN THE CLASS. (NECESSITY)

10. SHE MUST BE CONFUSED ABOUT HER NEXT PROJECT. (NECESSITY)

11. SHE MUST TAKE HER DECISIONS HERSELF. (NECESSITY)

We also use MUST in PAST but IT SHOWS HIGH POSSIBILITY OF ANY WORK OR ACTION WHERE YOU ARE 90% OR 100% SURE. Moreover, you have to follow the structure of MUST HAVE + V3.

FOR EXAMPLE:-

12. MEENA MUST HAVE TAKEN HER LUNCH. (PAST POSSIBILITY)

13. SHIVAM AND RAVI MUST HAVE CARRIED THEIR PASSPORTS. (PAST POSSIBILITY)

14. RAVEENA MUST HAVE PREPARED DINNER. (PAST POSSIBILITY)

15. THEY MUST HAVE GONE FOR SHOPPING. (PAST POSSIBILITY)

Similarly, You can simply make the negative version of any sentence such as YOU MUST NOT KNOW ABOUT GANDHIAN PHILOSOPHY OF NON-VIOLENCE, HE MUST NOT TAKE HIS WRIST WATCH IN EXAM, and MEENA MUST NOT HAVE TAKEN HER LUNCH, etc.

USE OF MUST/ABOUT TO

ABOUT TO

Furthermore, ABOUT TO ALWAYS USE WITH (BOTH) SINGULAR+PLURAL. Similarly, It uses in PRESENT, use IS/AM/ARE before ABOUT TO, and is mostly READY TO DO NEXT ACTION. Moreover, you can use SUPPOSE TO/GOING TO in place of ABOUT TO.

FOR EXAMPLE:-

  1. SHE IS ABOUT TO LEAVE. (NEXT ACTION)

2. HE IS ABOUT TO GO MARKET. (NEXT ACTION)

3. THEY ARE ABOUT TO LEAVE THEIR COMPANY. (NEXT ACTION)

4. MEENA IS ABOUT TO WASH HER DISHES. (NEXT ACTION)

5. SHE IS ABOUT TO PURCHASE MEDICINES. (NEXT ACTION)

6. THEY SUPPOSE TO LEAVE FOR THEIR HOME. (NEXT ACTION)

7. WE ARE ABOUT TO EAT ROTTEN FOOD. (NEXT ACTION)

8. LOOK AT THAT RAT! IT’S ABOUT TO JUMP. (NEXT ACTION)

9. THE CONCERT IS ABOUT TO START. (NEXT ACTION)

We can also make its PAST version by using WAS in place of IS and SUPPOSE TO/GOING TO will turn into SUPPOSED TO and WAS/WERE GOING TO.

FOR EXAMPLE:-

10. SHE WAS ABOUT TO PURCHASE MEDICINES. (PAST NEXT ACTION)

11. THEY WERE SUPPOSED TO LEAVE FOR THEIR HOME. (PAST NEXT ACTION)

12. WE WERE ABOUT TO EAT ROTTEN FOOD. (PAST NEXT ACTION)

Moreover, a negative sentence can be like – SHE IS NOT ABOUT TO LEAVE, THEY ARE NOT ABOUT TO LEAVE THEIR COMPANY, and SHE WAS NOT ABOUT TO PURCHASE MEDICINES, etc.
